Lowering Blood Pressure Without Pills
When you go to a doctor and find out you have high blood pressure, most of them reach for their prescription pad to give you a pill to take. For a few people, medication may be necessary due to other organic factors, such as kidney problems, but for most people hypertension can be controlled without having to resort to pills. There is no guarantee that a pill will work and they can have some serious side effects so pills should be a last resort, not the first course of treatment.
Your first course of treatment when it comes to lowering blood pressure is to change your diet and lifestyle. If you are overweight, you need to lose weight and you may find your hypertensive blood levels returns to normal. If you are not overweight, then you need to look at your overall diet. You need to be sure to be getting enough of the nutrients known to support healthy blood pressure levels like potassium, magnesium, vitamin D and calcium.
Are you an active person? Most people in today’s busy world do not get nearly as much exercise as they should each day. Believe it or not, a sedentary person will usually have a higher heart rate than an active person and that can cause the pressure in your blood to be elevated. Getting more active and fit can not only help with lowering the pressure in your blood, it can also help you lose weight.
Stress has been proven to cause hypertension in otherwise healthy people. By learning to slow down and relax a bit, you can help reduce your blood pressure. Yoga helps many people to reduce stress and it also helps you be more active and flexible while you’re at it.
Pills should not be the first treatment option when it comes to lowering blood pressure.
